Red Balloon – Cambridge students see poetry come alive in Cambridge
Last Friday, 27 January, students went to listen to some of the poets whose poems they have been studying for their English GCSE. The event, which was held at the Guildhall, was completely sold out. The poets included Carol Ann Duffy, Gillian Clarke, John Agard and Simon Armitage, and students asked about their poems and interpretations. A representative from an English GCSE examining board also spoke to the students about what examiners are looking for and what students would be expected to do. The event was a great success and gave students a better insight into poems they have been studying. We hope to take students to this event next year.
